Online Continence Assessments-

What You Need To Know

First Light Nursing Services

Is it possible to complete an NDIS continence assessment online via telehealth?

In this blog post, we will go into who is suitable for online continence assessments and how they work.

Who is suitable for a telehealth continence assessment?

Continence assessments can be complex and require an in person visit, however we have found the people who meet the following criteria are suitable for the telehealth option.

  • Have a good support team who can handle a zoom call.
  • Whoever is on the call has a good understanding and rapport with the participant.
  • We are able to communicate with key people throughout the report writing process.

If the above can be met, than most of the time we can help.

How do they work?

An online assessment works just the same as an in person assessment.

We will organise a time for a meeting using zoom or any other method. We than meet the participant and their support team/family, ask questions and gather the necessary information.

We may ask the support team to conduct measurements of the waist and other areas as well as send us photos of the current products in use. The more information we get the better.

What you can do to help an online assessment?

  • Take measurements of the waist, hips and thighs, see picture below
  • Gather and send allied health reports to our nurse prior to the assessments.
  • Complete bowel and bladder diaries if these have been recommended by our nurse.
  • Provide and documents or care plans, especially if they relate to continence.
  • If you feel a phone call is required to discuss anything, organise a chat with our nurse to provide additional context.
